A Look Back at 2022: New San Marcos Campus

It’s official, San Marcos — the newest location for Smith Chason’s WCUI School of Medical Imaging is open and ready for business, now as new members of the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce. Last month, the school held a public Ribbon Cutting Ceremony that started with a welcome by Smith Chason College founder and CEO, Myra Chason.

“We want to thank everyone from San Marcos for the warm welcome we have received,” Ms. Chason said in her introduction. “We are delighted to bring healthcare education to the area to help the community.”

The ceremony also featured Smith Chason COO and General Counsel Andrew High, representatives from the City of San Marcos staff, Chamber of Commerce members and staff, first responders from the San Diego Sherriff’s San Marcos station, and other members of the community. San Marcos Mayor Rebecca Jones presided over the ribbon cutting and also gave a speech.

“I know you are a college, but we recognize you are also a business,” Mayor Jones said in her remarks. “San Marcos has become known for both education and healthcare, and we are so happy to know you will only add to that distinction with the addition of your business in our community.”

The event concluded with a tour of the facility and the ultrasound lab and equipment that will be used by Smith Chason’s WCUI sonography students.

First announced back in July, the San Marcos campus is located in the Civic View Corporate Centre and features thousands of square feet of classroom and lab spaces, as well as building amenities like high-speed internet and a fitness center. The location will offer:

All of these programs will contribute to the already robust network of healthcare professionals in the local community, which includes top-notch hospitals and outpatient facilities.

“With such a strong network of medical facilities, WCUI can not only provide our students with the knowledge and education to exceed in their respective medical calling but make a strong positive impact in this growing medical community,” Michael Stewart, Director of Education at the San Marcos campus, said back in July. “Additionally, the San Marcos campus has been constructed with the students in mind, giving them access to the equipment and the facility they need to strive in their respected field.”

This is a key time to get into the field of diagnostic and medical imaging, as well. The California Employment Development Department reports that employment of:

  • Diagnostic Medical Sonographers is expected to grow 27.5%
  • Cardiovascular Sonographers is expected to grow 16%
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists is expected to grow 22%

— all much faster than the national average.

If you’ve been considering a career in medical sonography, now is the time, and WCUI is the place. We’ve been educating students with the healthcare knowledge they need for over 20 years at our campuses in Los Angeles, California; Ontario, California; San Marcos, California; and Phoenix, Arizona for your convenience. Contact us today to learn more about our programs or request an enrollment application today.
